Do you know?

UVA/UVB protecting ingredients in sunscreens come in two forms, mineral and chemical filters. The most common sunscreens on the market contain chemical filters. These products typically include a combination of two to six of the following active ingredients: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate and octinoxate. Mineral sunscreens use zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. A handful of products combine zinc oxide with chemical filters.

Most common chemical UVA/UVB radiation filters are scientifically proven to harm corals. Scientists have discovered that an estimated 4,000 to 6,000 metric tons of sunscreen rinses off of swimmers every year and, as a result, up to 10 percent of coral reefs are threatened by sunscreen-induced bleaching. Although this is not the worst problem that corals are facing, like the climate change, it is relatively easy to fix.

In addition, these sun filters are hormone-active and disturb our human hormon balance. It could even be found in mother milk.
